Ruby Tuesday is a Mainship Pilot Trawler 34. Her length overall is 37'. She was commissioned in 2003 by Mr. Mainship himself, Warren Luhrs. From Florida she came to Ontario by way of Manotick on the Rideau Canal and then Lake Nippissing in North Bay.
While anchored on a rainy Sunday morning off Picton Island on the U.S. side of the 1000 Islands, I found Ruby Tuesday. Somewhat disenchanted with my old sailboat — as she was breaking down now on a regular basis — I decided that it was time to transition from sail to motor. My sailing friends thought me impulsively crazy! Sailors often talk about retiring their sails and going to a trawler type boat but, they seldom act on it. A few days later I signed the papers. Weeks later, I drove up to North Bay for a sea trial. The impulsivity of my purchase made me feel slightly unhinged. Had I made a mistake?
I am now starting my third season with Ruby Tuesday and I can assure you that this was no mistake. She is a lovely boat. A little house on the water.
